My Life = My mind

As I sit here trying to recapitulate my life and trying to think what productive things I have done in all my existence, I find myself drawing blanks. It worries me that the only positive thing I have gotten from life is the fact that I’ve learned things, things that would forever dictate and explain my actions. In my 20 years of living here I have grown, obviously physically but most importantly mentally. Some of the things I’ve been able to retain from my experience, not only in school and such, but in life in general are typically known but also typically overlooked. I’m aware that we as people tend to be very materialistic; I say ‘we’ because it would be hypocritical of my part to exclude myself from others when I know that I’m in fact part of them. Even though many of us want reject this idea of us being obsessed with material stuff we can’t because we know it’s, for the vast majority of us, true. Truth is very hard to find nowadays, even in places where it is claimed such as schools or churches, but I don’t particularly like to talk religion, mainly because the topic it’s too complex to only write a few lines about it. However, something that I have learned from religion and that I take as a good thing is faith, not necessarily in God, but having faith in a situation and/or yourself. I see our generation as the generation who you can lie to, the one you can impress by flashing something shiny on our faces; it is sad how we are portrait. But what makes it even sadder it is the fact that we can’t deny it. It breaks my heart when I see people wearing a “che” t-shirt or one with the peace sign on it, not because I’m against those symbols but because the people wearing them do not appreciate/understand/embrace those symbols that are supposed to be so meaningful. We just want to fit in and follow the current fashion trend; we do not utilize our freedom of thought. We do not have a mind of our own. Again, I’m aware of my generalization of our youth but I wouldn’t do it if I knew it wasn’t true. We live on a modern world full of lies, from the things we buy, the programs we watch, the mainstream music we listen to, everything is a corporate lie. I want to make it clear that I’m neither anti-capitalism nor anti-establishment but I do believe that our system is flawed. I guess what I’m trying to evoke and proliferate is that we must act as our own person. Have a reason to dress the way you do and think the way you think. Don’t give in pressure and doubt everything new that is introduced to you. It is by doubting that one finds the truth, be skeptical. Doubt this.

  5. definitely some deep thoughts here, and I agree with most of it. While I try to reserve judgement until I truly know someone, and I know that there are definitely exceptions to the generalizations, the generalizations and stereotypes all originate from truth. The one thing I have to say is live life to the fullest, don't worry about what other do or think unless it truly affects you, because life is too short for stress. Get money, get paid, get bitches, get laid. 'nuff said.
